Beijing University of Technology (Beijing Tech)
Founded in 1960, Beijing University of Technology (Beijing Tech) is a key university under the jurisdiction of the Beijing Municipal Government. The University has established a multidisciplinary academic structure, offering a variety of programs and is involved in diversified research in the fields of science, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts and law. The University is ranked among the top 3% of all the universities in China.
Beijing Tech is located in the southeast part of Beijing. The campus covers an area of about 80 hectares with 4,940,000 square meters of office space.

There are about 17,000 students currently enrolled in Beijing Tech among whom are 12,000 undergraduate students, almost 4,000 master's degree students, over 500 doctoral degree students, and around 300 international students. In addition, there are over 10,000 continuing education adult students.

Beijing Tech 's strategic goals for the eleventh “five-year plan” are to (1) continue the development of the key academic disciplines, (2) cultivate the growth of its campus culture, (3) promote the university to be a model for other high education institutions under the Beijing Municipal Government, (4) set the foundation for making the university a first class academic institution in China, (5) participate in the economic and social development of Beijing, (6) enhance international cooperation, and (7) contribute to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

School of Software Engineering (SSE) at Beijing Tech
The School of Software Engineering (SSE) at Beijing Tech is one of the primary bases in the capital of China to train high level software talents. The school was ratified in December 2001 by the Ministry of Education and the State Development and Planning Commission of China as one of the 35 pilot software engineering schools. SSE is approved to conduct high education leading to several different degrees, i.e., bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate, all in computer science and software engineering. The school is asked to tailor its education programs and teaching methods to suit the needs of the rapid development of the software industry. The goal of establishing the SSE is to train technical and managerial personnel and to equip them specifically with the knowledge and skills on modern software engineering technology to meet the needs of enterprises, both national and international. To achieve the goal, the school will seek ways to cooperate with major overseas universities in the areas of introducing new teaching materials, engaging prestigious experts and scholars, establishing joint education programs, etc. Students of the school will be offered the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge as well as advanced technology in the global software industry. The school is trying hard to improve the way in which software talents should be produced in collaboration with international partner universities. The school has established cooperative relationships with major multinational software enterprises in teaching and research. Through specially-tailored training programs, students will be able to immediately join the group to develop enterprise software upon graduation.

The school currently admits students to study towards the bachelor’s and the second bachelor’s degree in software engineering. It also offers programs that lead to the master’s degree in computer science and technology and in software engineering as well as the doctoral degree in software applications technology. Students complete degree requirement by earning course credits, which gives the students the flexibility to adapt the pace of study to suit their own situation, especially for the working students who seek advanced degrees through continuing education.

As a pilot education program in today’s high education system in China, SSE adapts its programs to the need of the rapid development of the global software industry while producing a large number of skilled software talents who are equipped with creative mind and the necessary ability. Our goal is to make SSE a top-ranked software engineering center in the country and to contribute as much as possible to the development of the software industry in Beijing and throughout China.
