Guangxi Normal University
Guangxi Normal University is located in Guilin, a beautiful city rich in natural wonders and historical relics and well known for its unique, unsurpassable landscape of hills and rivers. After many years of creative endeavors, it has become a key university at the provincial level that offers many basic and applied disciplines of liberal arts and natural sciences, teachers and non-teachers training programs, and a great variety of quality-oriented education.
About 20 foreigners are needed each academic year to teach English and Japanese on regular basis at college level or high-school level: 15 - 17 native speakers of English and 2 - 3 native speakers of Japanese with required qualifications.
1.Qualifications and Salary with Fringe Benefits
Monthly Salary: 2,200 - 2,500 yuan for those holding Bachelor’s degree with some TESL training and teaching experience; 2,500 - 3,000 yuan for Master’s degree holders with English teaching experience and research work; 3,000 - 3,500 yuan for those holding Doctor’s degree or with associate professor title (senior lecturer in the British Commonwealth countries) and higher.
Travel Allowance: 1,100 yuan granted by the end of a semester for travel in the country.
Medical Care: Given the same medical care as the Chinese staff for minor ailments; serious ailments shall be covered by the patient him/herself. It is suggested that candidates should have their medical insurance before coming to China.
Transportation: Traveling expenses from the home country to Guilin and back to the home country shall be covered by the candidate him/herself. Arrival pick-up, departure see-off and between campus school shuttle bus transport is provided for free.
Lodging: Free housing, a fully-furnished apartment of 2 bedrooms and a sitting-room with an air-conditioner, a telephone, a TV set, washing machine, a water heater, and bathroom and kitchen facilities. Gas, electricity and telephone bill shall be covered by the user.
2.Teaching Tasks
1) Candidates are requested to arrive and register at the Office of International Exchanges one week before a new semester begins.
2) The average teaching task is 14 - 16 class hours a week.
3) Be devoted to the teaching tasks assigned; Submit the semester teaching plan and syllabus to the employing department/unit before the new semester begins; Submit a teaching report by the end of a semester in duplicate, one to the employing department/unit and the other to the Office of International Exchanges.
3.Application
To apply for a teaching position at Guangxi Normal University, the following formalities are necessary.
Submit resume (curriculum vitae), 2 letters of recommendation, copies of diploma and passport.
Fill out Guangxi Normal University Foreign Staff Employment Application Form and Medical Examination Form.
After consent and examination by the employing department and the Office of International Exchange, the above-mentioned documents are to be submitted to the higher authority for approval.
After approval by the higher authority concerned, the candidates will receive
Confirmation Document and Notice of Visa Application, by which they can start applying for a working visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate (General) close to their locality.
After obtaining the visa, the candidate can make flight reservation and inform the Office of International Exchanges for pick-up arrangement.
Application time: March - June each year to apply for a position in the Fall Semester; September - December to apply for a position in the Spring Semester.
4.Term and Contract
Candidates can apply for a semester position, one academic year position or
one academic year position with a possibility of extension for another year. After arrival at GNU, the approved candidate should sign the GNU Employment Contract with the employing department/unit.
