Name:Robert Deakin
Gender:Male
Nationality:USA
Education:Master
Dear Director:
I am eager to teach English as a second language in Guangzhou, China. I am very flexible about teaching regardless of age or skill level. I am particularly interested in working at a college or university in Guangzhou with a strong academic reputation. I seek a position starting in August of 2007.
I am a native English speaker born in the USA. I am certified in both TESOL and TESL. I have a double major in Geography and Government for my BA and also a Masters Degree in Public Administration. I have a diverse background in education with experience teaching bilingual elementary school age students as a volunteer one day per week for about four years. I owned and operated a Kumon Math Center tutoring students for 4 years. I have also taught adults in a variety of subjects including race relations, communications and educational administration for over two years in my current position and while serving in the US Army as a psychological operations officer and race relations officer.
I have about 30 years experience working for the US Department of Education reviewing educational services and resolving complaints from parents and students from kindergarten up to graduate school. My work involved ensuring equal opportunity and access to educational services for all students regardless of race, disability or sex. This included reviewing the adequacy and appropriateness of educational services for students with limited English proficiency.
I am a people oriented person and enjoy helping others learn. I prefer the communicative approach to teaching English. My education, experience, and professional training will enable me to succeed in teaching English to your students.
My wife is a citizen of China and a former elementary school teacher. I have visited Sichuan, China as recently as December and traveled throughout Asia to Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan Province. I look forward to teaching in China now.
